Conveniently timed moves

Guess I moved over here from Livejournal just in time for one of my occasional Facebook breaks. They happen from time to time. Every so often something happens which reminds me just how manipulative Facebook are in keeping eyeballs on them rather than anywhere else on the Internet, and I figure it's time for a time out. I would, in all honesty, dump them completely if not for the convenience factor of it being a useful place to share child photos with assorted grandparents.

I am hoping that the whole Russians/LJ-exodus/DW thing results in a resurgence of long-form posting. Other forms of social media are all well and good (or, y'know, evil) but I miss proper posts from actual people I know.

I have managed to get some of the grandparents to use whatsapp groupchat for sharing photos, which still probably tries to share all my contacts with facebook, but doesn't actually suck my attention onto the dratted site anyway.
